Игра "The Getaway" от компании Team Soho очень сильно напоминает GTA 3, действия которого перенесены в Лондон. Главный герой - человек вне закона, он действует, нарушая закон в своих собственных интересах. Вам вновь предстоит окунуться в ставший культовым симбиоз скоростных погонь на автомобилях с непременными перестрелками и разборками. Лондонский гангстер Марк Хэммонд (Mark Hammond) бессовестный и беспощадный, пытается спасти свою жизнь и порвать со своим криминальным прошлым. Правда, "коллеги" по работе все еще нуждаются в его услугах и не намерены дать Марку выйти из игры. Можно выйти на проезжую часть и, тормознув понравившуюся машину выкинуть несчастного владельца на тротуар. Во время перестрелки можно избежать ранения, кубарем прокатившись по земле и найдя относительно надежное укрытие за припаркованным авто. Все движения людей очень реалистично, потому что "The Getaway" использует анимированных персонажей и технологию Motion Capture, послужившую верой и правдой множеству известнейших игр.

Regional Differences/Revisions

The game has had several changes since its release, starting with the initial 1.0 European version.
This version has two key features which will be removed or altered in later releases: A detailed torture cutscene, and a licensed British Telecommunications (BT) Ford Transit van, which even still sports a low-res Ford badge on its cutscene model (and the drivable model in the OPM Demo of the game).
Following the release of the game in Europe, due to the violent nature of the aforementioned cutscene, The Getaway was banned in Australia, thus forcing the developers to alter the camera angles of the scene, focusing more on the characters' facial expressions rather than the violence. The cutscene model of the BT Van was also re-textured, and the Ford badges were removed. This is known as the 1.1 European version of the game.

Regional Differences/Revisions

The 1.1 European version's release was then followed by a dispute with British Telecommunications. The latter had wished to have their identity taken out of the game completely, because in the in-game mission, the player was tasked with attacking another BT van, and BT didn't want attacks on their employees to be portrayed whithin the game. Following this, all versions of the game had a completely censored, plain white van in the mission, and even the dialogue was altered to address it as just "a van" rather than a "BT van".

To counter this loss of content, an additional (albeit unlicensed) vehicle was added into the game, the "Venom GT Concept". This car is exclusive to the 1.0 American and 2.0 European versions of the game, and does not appear in any previous release in any shape or form.

Another minor addition are short camera pans at the start of some missions, which aren't present in older versions.
