3D Atlas

"Too bad the info is outdated."

Another one of the more impressive multimedia software discs to come with the 3DO, you’ll find that 3D Atlas isn’t much of a game, but rather an interactive globe. The further you get into the disc, the more options and features you can unlock on different countries and otherwise throughout. Possibly one of the coolest points that this disc has to offer is the in-depth information on the different regions of the world. Once you’ve gotten into the disc and seen what there is to see, you will find that there really isn’t much to go back to.

-The Features-

Considering that the game is full of information, you have to remember that the info that you find in each of the regions is outdated with the times. There is no upgrade to the Atlas and you might find that the disc just doesn’t have the most current information if you plan on using it for studying. Though the different regions of the interactive globe have in-depth information such as population and import/export, it really doesn’t give much of a history on whatever country you’re looking for. This will come as a disappointment if you’re trying to use it for up to date information.

Maneuvering through the various menus really isn’t all that hard and you’ll find that the use of the pad makes scrolling through the different countries easy enough to do. Once you’ve selected your country, you can then open up a ton of different options in order to get your information on said country. Though you don’t have much to work with, it does make it rather fun in order to find out what you can about obscure countries that you never knew is existed. Aside from this, there isn’t anything here that you have to study too hard and nothing that you have to rack your brain to remember.

-The Visuals-

Visually, the Atlas is appealing in the way that it moves and turns as you select the different countries. Though you won’t find anything too impressive, there are some cool little snips of video that allow you to see some of the more important things that a country has to offer. However, these are brief and limited with plenty of grainy portions that make it hard to keep up with what is going on. These grainy portions of the video also make it hard to see just what it is that you’re looking at if you’ve got a smaller television, so you might want to keep the brightness of the television up to the max.

-The Audio-

More of the snips come through with the selections that you make, though you won’t have much of a problem with what you hear. Though you’ll find that the disc doesn’t offer much in terms of what you can and cannot hear, you will find that the small snips give insight into what it is that you’re looking at. However, these snips of audio are also not all that well done and they never change from one time to another. Each country has a brief description that you can listen to and that is pretty much it, so be aware of the fact that there isn’t background music to keep you going.

-The Verdict-

3D Atlas doesn’t do much to really keep you up to date on the current events and locations of the world. Imports and Exports as well as populations are all outdated in this disc, though you will find that the sheer amount of information is purely impressive to look at. Moving onward, you’ll find that the visuals are neat and the audio is nice where it comes in, but there still is a problem with the fact that it never changes each time that you activate a country. However, if you like the learning tools and you can pick up this little information treasure chest, it is well worth having in your collection, especially if you have kids who are looking to learn geography.

Перед тобой совершенно замечательный и не похожий ни на что другое продукт от EA!
В 3D Атласе представлены три типа карт: физическая, политическая и экологическая. Повертев глобус, можно приблизить интересуемую область вплоть до 9-ти кратного увеличения. Все карты сделаны на базе снимков со спутника, и их можно просматривать в трёх измерениях, меняя точку обзора, приближаясь или отдаляясь от объекта. Богатые функции поиска позволяют быстро найти нужное место на карте, а по каждой стране есть исчерпывающая информация. В целом, база данных Атласа потрясает моё воображение своими размерами!
Прибавьте к этому вставки интерактивного видео и анимации, различную информацию о земном шаре, и всём, что на нём творится, и вы поймёте, насколько это грандиозный продукт!

А если надоело созерцать, и горишь желанием проверить свои знания - запускай игру, в которой надо будет отвечать на вопросы. Играть можно 1-4 людям сразу!
